BORDER MUSEUM

Asbach-Sickenberg
Located directly on the site of the former inner-German border, the Border Museum offers a fascinating insight into Germany's divided past.

HALF-TIMBERED OLD TOWN

Allendorf
Stroll through the historic Old Town of Allendorf and admire its remarkably well-preserved rows of half-timbered houses. Following a devastating fire nearly 400 years ago, master carpenters from across Germany rebuilt the town, creating a fascinating blend of traditional architectural styles that can still be admired today.

No visit is complete without exploring neighbouring Sooden, with its beautiful spa gardens and the charming Weinreihe pedestrian street.

documenta

Kassel
Held every five years in Kassel, documenta is one of the world's most prestigious exhibitions of contemporary art.

From 12 June 2027, the legendary "Museum of 100 Days" will once again come to life for documenta 16, attracting artists and visitors from around the globe.

Am Brunnen vor dem Tore

Allendorf
Take a moment to relax at the Zimmersbrunnen-Fountain in Allendorf.
Listen to the gentle sound of flowing water and the rustling leaves, and you may almost hear the famous verses:

By the well before the gate
There stands a linden tree;
In its cooling shade I dreamed
Many a sweet dream.

According to local tradition, Wilhelm Müller once sat here and wrote the poem »Der Lindenbaum«, which was later immortalised by Franz Schubert as part of his renowned song cycle »Winterreise«.

HANSTEIN CASTLE RUINS

Bornhagen
Discover the impressive Hanstein Castle Ruins, one of the largest medieval hilltop castles in central Germany and the ancestral seat of the noble »von Hanstein« family, whose descendants include the famous racing driver Huschke von Hanstein.

Climb to the top of the castle tower and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the tri-state region where Hesse, Lower Saxony and Thuringia meet.

The castle also served as a filming location for several scenes in the historical feature film The Physician (Der Medicus).
